Saputara is a small hill station lying on the border of Maharashtra and Gujarat; this is a part of the district Dang in Gujarat state. Tourists looking for a weekend destinations flock here to enjoy the serene beauty of it. Mostly the tourists from Mumbai, Nasik, and Surat visit here to spend their valuable time with beautiful Saputara lake amid hills and greenery spread around. This can also be considered as a picnic spot and you will love to visit this place with your family. As it is a small hill station, all the visiting points are situated very close to each other. It does not require a lot of time to be spent traveling; therefore, one can explore the whole Saputara within a day. Saputara is packed with many hotels and resorts near the center of the attraction Saputara lake. The best time to visit this amazing place is the monsoon. It offers a fantastic view in the rainy season. It has various places/points to explore. Mainly it is famous for boating, ropeway and sunset point.

Places to Visit

Sunrise Point -

At a distance of 3 km from Saputara Bus Station, Sunrise Point is a famous vantage point located in Saputara, Gujarat. Also known as Valley Viewpoint, it is one of the magnificent places to visit in Saputara. Known for the splendid view of the sunrise, Sunrise Point is a very serene and calm place to start your day with. Situated on the crest of a hill, this viewpoint gives a breath-taking view of the sunrise among the hills of Western Ghats. Besides, it is also a popular picnic spot, where families and tourists can be seen enjoying the natural beauty. Sunrise Point has been developed at different layers with a dedicated area for walkers and joggers. The place can be reached by a 1.5 km trek from the parking area at the bottom of the hill. The trail is very scenic, covered with lush green vegetation, and is an attraction in itself. There are many benches along the way, where the senior citizens can relax for a while, and guard railings have been installed for safety at the periphery of each terrace. From the top of the peak, one can see the entire Saputara along with the surrounding villages and forests. During monsoons, one can also see a number of waterfalls in the surrounding areas and dense green foliage.

Gira Waterfall -

The picturesque waterfall fed by the Ambika River is a favorite among tourists and is frequented by nature lovers. Situated about 3 km from the Waghai Town in Dang District, Gira Falls is a 75 ft fall that emerges from the Kapri Tributary and drops into the Ambika River. Capturing the beauty of Gira Falls in its true form never gets better and it makes for a great weekend trip from Saputara. It makes us a great stopover for those traveling from Saputara towards Surat. The best season to visit the waterfalls is during and after the monsoon season. The speed of the water plunging into the river creates a foggy look giving it a charming feel. It attracts tourists looking to get a break from city life and is gradually developing into a popular picnic spot. The falls are located on the river Gira near the Girmal village, which is about 8 km west of Shingala. It can either be reached via the road connecting Ahwa and Singala or Navapur and Singala. Vehicles are allowed to a point about one kilometer from the waterfall. From the parking area, the enchanting waterfalls can be reached only by walking.

Saputara Lake -

The gorgeous Saputara Lake is surrounded by the hills. All year round, thousands of visitors visit this serene lake. The hills add to the enjoyable climate. The lush green flora offers a soothing and relaxing experience to the visitors. Tourists like to capture the panoramic view of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Sahyadri ranges from the Saputara Lake. The government has constructed a boat club for boating activities at this popular Saputara tourist place. The boat club offers a lot of fun-filled activities for the tourists. Visitors can hire boats and enjoy the beauty of the lake and the greenery. Children enjoy paddle boating as they can do it easily while having fun with the family. The boats can be hired between 8.30 am to 6.30 pm. The experience will cost INR 20 per person. It is advisable to check the latest price and timings at the time of visiting the lake. Visiting Saputara Lake for a fun daytime picnic is one of the best things to do in Saputara. Saputara Lake is also ideal for photography. Nature lovers, families, and large groups of travelers often spend a lot of time at the lake to capture the mesmerizing beauty of the region. Table View Point -

At a distance of 3 km from Saputara Bus Station, Table Land is a viewpoint located in Saputara, Gujarat. Also known as Town Viewpoint, it is one of the stunning viewpoints in Saputara and among the must include places in Saputara Tour Packages. The Table Land Point offers tourists a mesmerizing view of the entire hill town of Saputara, rivulets, and streams coursing through the valley, and the Gujarat-Maharashtra border. The place derives its name from the flat table-like surface on top of the hill called Governor's Hill. Situated at a higher altitude than the main town, this vantage point gives a splendid night view of Saputara when the entire town can be seen lightened with different colors. Also, the place offers several recreational activities like camel riding, horse riding, zip-lining, bike tours, etc. Apart from all these, the Ropeway Ride is the most popular activity here and also the main attractions in Saputara. Operated by the Vaity Resort, the cable car runs between Table Land and Sunset Point. The 10 minutes ride provides a bird's eye view of the entire city, the lake, and the adjoining plains. The cable car can carry up to 6 people at a time. There will be a long queue during weekends and holidays.

Hatgadh Fort - Relive the History -

Hatgadh Fort is the ideal picnic spot for families, couples, and backpackers. The fort is located on the border of Gujarat and Maharashtra at a distance of 5 kilometers from Saputara. It was built by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and is located at an elevation of 3,600 feet. The only way to reach the fort is through a trekking route via a narrow rocky path. A statue of Lord Ganesha is placed on the top of the fort. You can also see the beautiful Suragana village from the top. It is one of the most popular places to visit in Saputara. A statue of Lord Ganesha is placed on the top of the fort. One can see a tombstone, a water tank, remnants of a mansion, dilapidated fort walls, and an arch-shaped structure inside the fort. The unique feature of Hatgadh is two reservoirs, named Jamuna and Ganga, which are the source of water for the villages located in the vicinity earlier. Tourists can enjoy beautiful views of the entire valley and Suragana Village from the top of the fort. The only way to reach the fort is through trekking via a narrow rocky path. The route to the fort starts just near the Anando Restaurant in front of Club Mahindra Resort. It takes around an hour to reach the top of the fort from the parking place. It's not advisable for kids and aged people as the trek is demanding.

Food Places to Visit

Sugar and Spice -

Sugar N Spice is a restaurant that tops the charts as far as traveller opinions go. Offering a variety of cuisines like Indian, Chinese, and Asian, it also serves delicious fast food. Tourists go quite ga-ga over their pizza, pav bhaji, and sandwiches. Serving only vegetarian fare, Sugar N Spice also has a range of options available for vegans. Priced on an average at about INR 400 to INR 600 per head for a meal, Sugar N Spice on Nashik Road is quite affordable for those travelling on a budget and highly recommended for its family-friendly ambiance.

Hotel Purohit -

Another hit with tourists is Hotel Purohit near the Giri Nagar bus stop in Saputara. The Gujarati dishes are the ones you must try here. They are authentic and cooked to perfection, and so tantalizing to the taste buds that you will surely want to eat there again and again. Farsans, dhokla, kachori, khatti mithi daal, muthia padi sabzi, halwa, and fruit custard are prepared especially well. Hotel Purohit is also recommended for its great pricing. An average meal costs only about INR 260 to INR 280 per person. Yet another reason to keep going back for more.

    There’s so much of greenery and such beautiful points, you wouldn’t feel like coming back.
    And restaurants like Purohit and Sugar & Spice are one of the finest and oldest there.
